A Blind Shoe Mender Yet can Sew Shoe very Well

My name is Endurance Otobi I’m a blind shoe mender ,I am from Delta state Nigeria I was not born blind though, I have refused to give up on myself by making myself productive with shoe mending.
I started having problems with my sight while I was in primary school. I became blind in 2002 after an incident in my former compound. So I started going for a checkup, the doctor told me it was glaucoma.

At this point, my parents were not financially buoyant enough to pay for my operation to restore back my sight. It was a very tough and painful moment for me and my family, they thought I was going to raise the family, they hoped that I was going to bring joy to them because I was very brilliant and now all hope seems lost because every effort to beg from relatives or friends to carry out operation was driven to no avail.  The only thing left for us was to pray and hope.                                 

My parents hoped and prayed that I would get better but it did not.  I couldn’t go out without the aid of someone assisting me. That’s how I sat at home from 2002 to 2009. I later made up my mind to fend for myself, because things were getting worse with us, my parents even find it difficult to fend for their selves and according to me, I really want to be somebody in life despite my physical disability.

My name is Felix Adeniyi  I am  based in Pashoku Aga in Ikorodu, a few months ago,  my son had a serious surgical recommended  problem I had to rush him that Friday evening when He collapsed and couldn’t walk, on getting to the hospital I was told that the doctor wasn’t around, so one of the nurses  called him, and the response was that he will be on his way immediately. The only choice I had at that time was to wait.
                                       
 I Waited for almost an hour, when I finally saw him walking through the door I couldn’t hold back my anger I had to yell at him not minding if he was so much in a hurry, I have to blame him first for putting my sons life in a huge risk I was so loud that I didn’t hear myself saying; “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?” The doctor smiled & said: “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call……And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”  (I taunted him) “Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will U do??” I said angrily. The doctor smiled again & replied: “I will say what Job said in the Holy Book “From dust we came & to dust we return, blessed be the name of God”. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go & Intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace”.  At this point, I was as furious as I was blasting him back to back saying: “Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy”

  My parents came to the school and with some senior lecturers we begged him and he refused.
